Old ladies

Yesterday I went to my old job at the elderly home to visit Amanda. She’s an old lady but has a really young mind. She’s creative and likes to write and read books. We stay in contact over letters but it was really nice to see each other in person. She’s 86 years old but in some ways feel like a child because she has so many questions about stuff people usually stops wondering about when they get older. But she also knows a lot. She loves the nature and used to have a summer house next to a lake. She had a lot of siblings from which most were elder sisters. They were only whispering and reading romantic novels. Amanda didn’t like that and preferred to be outside doing "boy-stuff". When she grew up she worked at a library and went to art school.

The most interesting thing about working in elder care was all the stories the old people told me about their past life. There was some sad stuff but also a lot of fun. Almost everyone met their husband or wife at a dance. Most of them stayed together their whole life or until someone died.

I really have a big thing for old (often female) Swedish authors which the old ladies knew a lot about. Sometimes I read poems to them from old books they had at home.

I had another lady I also felt really close to. She was deeply depressed and was really physically sick. She was a lovely person with a great a little sarcastic humor and interesting thoughts. We really liked and cared about each other. We used to hang out, eat chocolate and talk about her marriage. She loved the sun but couldn’t go out so often since she needed help. Every afternoon she had a glass of wine and some cheese on crackers. She was really into fashion and was always well dressed with her nails done even if she was blind. She died last year, she was 90 years old.
